      Some people would rather use anything else other than the metric system

    2. Double check that measurement, Mercator distorts size near the poles. Chile is long, but probably not quite that long.

      Please let’s make this a unit for reasonable long distances. Not space travel, and not human height. But long distance flights.

      The circumference of the earth being 40.000 km means that chile is over 4.000 km long. Over 4 Mm if you want

      I’d have guessed around 10. So it seems my Chile to Earth diameter ratio estimation skills are relatively good

      Interesting. Never really thought about it that way, but so it seems that it takes just under a second for a light to travel across Chile.

      It’s a handy unit of measurement. For instance I drive about .0072 Chile’s per day.
