Trying to get shit sorted before trump realizes they exist (and/or confuses the country with Greenland)

Terrible mistake, I guess they want the EU to send hundred thousands of „Syrian refugees“ from Algeria and Senegal

That’s so cool. Isn’t Iceland already in Schengen as well? At any rate, an amazing people and country, a fitting addition to the European Union. I just hope if there is another financial crisis, Iceland can stick it to the people who cause it, like they did last time.

Honestly bigger thing is being on the Euro. Their currency can naturally be unstable due to its small economy size. Too many exports or too many imports or another banking crisis could cause an issue. Being on Euro provides stability. For Iceland its a no brainer.

We don’t have any interest in handing over control to this heavily beauocratic institution. We are doing better without it running our affairs on our own. It has nothing to do with protection. We are a Nato member already. EU has been on a long declining phase and have handled their affairs poorly.

The EU on the fast track to becoming the new world leader in the absence of the US. Congrats to the EU. My financial interests are with you, to be safe.

It won’t happen though. Iceland won’t join the EU because they would basically lose control over their own country. They would have little to no representation, Iceland’s population is 350,000. So they would only have one representative in the EU governing body. They are already part of NATO. They can travel throughout Europe without going through customs. And though it offers stabilization for their currency which has never been particularly stable. The people who are against it point to the nation of Cyprus and the fact that their country is over run by foreign owned businesses and had no ability to regulate those businesses because of their small population. And their population is more than three times that of Iceland. I only know all of this because I am an immigrant living in Iceland. So though there are those who support this idea, it won’t pass the general vote it would need to happen.
