The army is going around shutting down businesses and telling people to stay inside, and CRNJ has reportedly said they will start shooting anyone still on the streets ~~past 1pm~~ (edit: which has passed). Shit is going to get very, very ugly.

My fingers crossed for everyone. My elderly father decided this was the time to visit Mexico earlier this month. Stuck in Puerto Vallarta.

  3. TMZ is so far the only news outlet reporting on the evolving situation. What a time we live in.

** yes, yes, time is passing and other news outlets are now covering it. TMZ lead on this — hence the OP link.

Anyone making AI videos about something like this should face consequences.

Whoa. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of the cartels ever openly attacking resort towns like this before. Even for the Mexican Drug War, this feels different.

I’ve lived in Guadalajara for years, we are also “under siege,” as are several other states in the region. We are currently under a statewide lockdown order, and all businesses and schools are required to close until the violence passes.

Cartel retaliation like this is *heavily* unprecedented.

  7. Holy shit we go there multiple times a year and are supposed to go for spring break!

    It’s always been super safe.

I was set to fly out to Puerte Vallarta this Thursday on vacation. Air B&B won’t refund our money because it is still possible to travel there just not to their airport.

  11. Have a friend that was supposed to go Monday for 2 weeks. Luckily, she’s still in Canada.

  12. The Mexican government just got to go scorched earth or this cycle will continue for a century.

Some short term violence is better than an endless cycle.

  13. I wish the people of Mexico wouldn’t support these guys.allowing them to become this big is insane.

  14. When we were visiting PV from Canada in (I think) 2016 the cartel attacked the military, bombed the bank beside our resort that we were at that morning, and shot down a military helicopter just down the beach from us. There was military helicopters flying above us all day. It was wild!

I’ve got a friend staying in PV right now and she’s basically on lockdown and can see smoke from car fires a few blocks away from her Airbnb.

Is this kind of violence ever typical in the Yucatan?
