      I’m not an American Civil War field surgeon in 1867 or anything, but that’s not how you do an upper arm amputation. The “medic” didn’t even have a plan for how to bandage the amputation once he was finished. He should have cut through much further down. That’s after the fact that that was probably totally unnecessary.

      I’m familiar with this sub and this was still a hard watch. I can’t help but think he probably died anyway, right?

      Shouldn’t they put pressure and clean gauze on there immediately? Maybe some blood clotting stuff? Why are they just standing there watching the blood spurt out?

      This is pre Napoleon era medical care. Wip off the limb with a shitty knife.

      Saying that even back then the conditions they operated in weren’t as filthy as it looks there. And the medics knew enough to leave some loose skin to stitch up the wound.

      Usually when amputating the leave some extra tissue and skin so they can sew the open wound shut. But this is total amateur day. That guy won’t last long unless he is chewing antibiotics and morphines like candy.
