Prices of travel, hotels, and restaurants have risen through inflation and greed to milk wealthier foreign tourists. Meanwhile, wages are the same as ever while cost of living has increased dramatically in the last few years. People just don’t have money.

It’s not rocket science, I’m not sure why anybody in government pretends to not understand any of this.

Domestic tourism is still a thing. It’s just that people are rediscovering more local places. Camping in particular has become far more popular post-covid due to it’s overall lower expense.

There’s just less _’flying to the other side of the country to get a crowded photo in front of shrine’_ tourism.

It doesn’t happen that hotel prices skyrocketed to milk overseas tourists and it’s now impossible to afford domestic travel for most Japanese people.

The workers at hotels still earn extremely low wages too, so the idea that this would “help the economy” is also false, unless one’s idea of helping the economy means another expensive car for the hotel owner

Just look at the price of domestic travel vs going to Korea or any destination in SEA. It’s cheaper (and more fun!)
to go overseas in many cases

  5. ??? aren’t they starting their economic downturn? why would they expect recovery?
