Realize how… for most its a language thing.

Its almost funny how much that % increases once its someone that speaks flawless/decent Japanese.

Sure, not 100%, since foreigners are still a riskier bet.

Honestly, if you can fill your place with a Japanese easily, why on earth would you incur the extra risk of putting a foreigner? At least a fleeing local you can pursue legally, while a foreigner could fuck off to their country and you would be SOL.

Let me correct the title: only 15% of Japanese apartments are open to Chinese and Indians*.

As a person who has rented different apartments in different cities in Japan and helped other Foregeiners to find one, most of the 不動産 only care that you have a job that is not suspicious, plan to stay for more than a year, know Japanese in a normal level, and not being Asian specially Chinese or Indian. It’s racist but they are the owners so there’s nothing we can do just search another apartment,

If you are from America or Europe most of the owners doesn’t have a problem to rent you an apartment

And only 3% of the population are foreigners so it seems like there’s plenty of apartments for all of us?

  4. We learned to only apply to blocks managed by large companies. Anything run by the owner or a family was always a rejection. once in case we didn’t take our shoes off at the door. Found it easier in Tokyo but worse rural.

  5. I wonder how it changes based on price of apartment ( i.e. if higher end apartments are more accepting since their customers are going to be higher income type people ). Obviously anecdotal, but I’ve lived in multiple places over the years and for each of my hunts I usually found a place by the third attempt, and in some cases even first or second. Obviously i guess I could have just been super lucky, but I do wonder if the price range has an effect on this.

  6. prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism by an individual, community, or institution against a person or people on the basis of their membership of a particular racial or ethnic group, typically one that is a minority or marginalized is racism.

    Pretty simple.
