I would inspect the round tuft of grass seen in the second photo for evidence of regurgitated food — could this be an Otter spraint?
There will be much more evidence of beavers in the form of bark-stripped trees, if that’s what’s around. Got any of that going on?
My knee-jerk response from the photos was muskrats, but I don’t have anything for scale on how wide those burrowing ruts are. Im used to beaver runs being extra slippery entering the water as a side effect of their tails dragging behind them.
I also don’t have a ton of experience identifying otter sign on the bank, so I don’t have an opinion there.
Do you have nutria where you are? r/animalid might be able to help.
Gators.
Yeah if it’s beavers there will be chewed trees nearby. If it was them, it would be to harvest food/branches.
Most animals are trying to not be seen. Humans are the only animal that can damage a pond.
Just let the pond evolve and see where it goes. It’s called nature.
Let nature be.
