    1. *Not holding my breath, but appreciate the sentiment and I do hope for justice. Any Governor who doesn’t pursue this is an enemy of the people they supposedly serve.*

„Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker is demanding a $1,700 tariff refund for every family in his state from President Trump after the[ Supreme Court ruled](https://www.axios.com/2026/02/20/trump-tariffs-supreme-court-illegal) many of the tariffs illegal.“

„Pritzker’s demand underscores [the rivalry](https://www.axios.com/2025/09/16/trump-pritzker-national-guard-chicago-crime-memphis-ice) between Trump and the governor — who is widely believed to be eyeing a 2028 White House run — but also the enormity of potential [refund liabilities](https://www.axios.com/2026/02/20/trump-scotus-tariff-refund-battle).“

„Pritzker estimates that the Trump administration owes Illinois alone $8,679,261,600 in „total damages.“

„Your tariff taxes wreaked havoc on farmers, enraged our allies and sent grocery prices through the roof,“ Pritzker wrote in a Friday letter to Trump.“

„The Supreme Court has ruled that this is yet one more unconstitutional act by you and your administration. This letter and the attached invoice stand as an official notice that the compensation is owed to the people of Illinois and if you do not comply we will pursue further action. “

„Trump said Friday that he believes attempts to claw back the money will be [tied up in court](https://www.reuters.com/world/us/scotus-live-us-supreme-court-rules-legality-trumps-tariffs-2026-02-20/) for years to come.“

Democrats should run on a clawback process or opt for a simple one-time tax on illegal tariff income, to be sent back to American consumers.

    3. Hell yeah Pritzker, standing up for his Illinois citizens. Even if nothing happens in the end at least he is speaking up for all us little guys.

    4. “Trump already has the power to tariff. It was codified in 1962 & again in 1974 by Congress.”

👉 The Trade Expansion Act of 1962
👉 The Trade Act of 1974

What two laws did Trump just highlight today?

👉 The Trade Expansion Act of 1962
👉 The Trade Act of 1974

Not a lucky guess. It’s just reading.

He exposed the SCOTUS, while simultaneous codifying his Powers.

It’s been shown that all of us payed for those tariffs, companies passed the cost onto us so why are they getting a refund when they didn’t pay for tariffs, we did? And since I’m sure the money brought in by tariffs has been spent already, wouldn’t the refunds come from taxpayer money, so would that not mean effectively we would be paying the cost of the tariffs TWICE? Then afterward we still have to deal with increased tariffs prices since we know companies won’t lower back down prices

I’m sure this will happen. Trump always pays his debts. Such a great guy.

This is a good strategy, I know I’m pissed that the money will get refunded back to companies even tho it was ultimately passed on to the consumer. Fuck that, give the money to the states and let them give it back to people.

They could pay everyone back with a surplus if they just seize some orange assets.

This guy isn’t your hero. He comes from a wealthy family full of scumbags. So cringe to see libs thirsting after a politician just cause he says something in opposition to Trump. This guy is literally working with him behind the scenes. Democrats are unfathomably useless, and will be for the foreseeable future.

    10. It makes more sense than giving it to importers – which would amount to a tax on the American public to pay importers.

Man, I saw a Republican win a Presidential election 8 years after TARP. No matter how bad they fuck up the economy their voters still somehow believe they are good for it. It’s crazy.

Not gonna lie, the priorities are not in the right place here. The priority should be doing anything and everything to remove trump from office. You can’t even say this is some „little steps towards the bigger goal“ because demanding refunds isn’t remotely related to removing a dictator.

But instead they’re directing their energy towards *money*.

    13. Upstairs-Region-7177 on

Nah, I think we should let things stand as they are. If people get money back many will be lead to think it’s a “Trump Refund” and not “your money back”

Dems should be saying “You broke? He’s why! Get us in and we get him out!”

Money gained by being an elected representative belongs to the people.
