    1. In 2004, Azerbaijani officer Ramil Safarov brutally murdered Armenian Lieutenant Gurgen Margaryan with an axe while the two were attending a NATO-sponsored course in Hungary. Safarov confessed to killing Margaryan and his intention to kill the other Armenian student present (Hayk Makuchyan) simply for being Armenian. He received a life sentence from a Hungarian court, however, in 2012, Hungary extradited Safarov to Azerbaijan under the premise that he would complete his sentence there. Upon his arrival in Baku, Safarov was immediately pardoned by Ilham Aliyev, promoted in rank, and awarded an apartment. He was and still is celebrated as a national hero in Azerbaijan, with another promotion to Colonel in December of 2025.

In Azerbaijan, they cultivate a certain type of hero  -the kind who stabs you in the back.
This is held up as a model to follow in all areas of life.
Keep that in mind when cooperating with them.

    4. what is really maddening how it was discovered that $9 million was transferred from Azerbaijani to a Hungarian bank account when the murderers transfer was negotiated

so a life in prison sentenced murderers freedom only costs $9 million
