Many of Takaichi’s policies are not favorable with Japanese I talked to, like the cutting of food taxes. Many people see it as a band-aid that’s not addressing the real issues.
Which is fair. So I have a lot of faith in the Japanese people. I suppose I have no choice as a resident my future is in their hands (and their future).
I do hope they can improve things, and I want to make things better for everyone in Japan as well, especially the Japanese who are struggling.

I wish there was a way to vote for a minority government. Like you want to vote for someone but don’t want them to win by a landslide

Sounds silly on paper but a little opposition to the ruling party is a pretty healthy thing. I think people voted thinking they’d get more of that and ended up with an extremely wide majority.
Whether that pans out to be a good thing or a bad thing remains to be seen. I know Reddit has its opinions on the matter. Who knows, we might see some tangible action to fixing some of Japan’s issues, or we might see a complete shit show.
There’s not too much of a precedent for such a wide majority.
