When Siyrsky was appointed Commander of UA Forces, I recall someone quoting troops, saying he would get a lot of Defenders killed.

That has proven to be true, and yet I wonder what the alternative is, considering how hesitant Ukraine’s allies have been to adequately arm Ukraine, ramp up their own military industrial complexes, or allowing Ukraine to target Russian territory positions earlier.

It will be a phyrric victory for Russia to “take” Pokrovsk… but just withdrawing in advance, or blowing up every building and withdrawing… just helps Russia move forward faster.
