I wanted to post this here as update because I saw someone posted the original story few days ago. 🙁 This makes me so sad and frustrated.

So rather than reverse the lift they sent her back down the hill hanging from the lift? Like I understand lift operators are usually a bunch of stoned teenagers but wtf were they thinking?

I am all for being vague as experts assess the information for a report. However, when the article talks about re-opening, its hard not to wonder. So the assessment showed no or limited fault on the ski hill or operators? Is that the take away? Or the ski hill can run before we know if its because of negligence?

I have been to vorlage many times and I recognize it as an institution of Wakefield so not trying to destroy the business or anything. I just don’t know how the community can feel comfortable with the lack of information and speed of continuation.

I find it hard to write about this honestly because regardless of anything, its just so incredibly sad and depressing and my emotions make it hard to look at objectively.

The abuse of the phrase “passed away” is blatant. Old, sick people pass away. Young people caught in ski lifts are killed.

This goes down to a lack of rules enforcement.

I’ve skied for decades, scarves and other loose articles of clothing have always been banned exactly for this reason.

A hoodie should absolutely be banned.

Another recent death happened when a patron was wearing a backpack and it got caught on the lift. Rules require people to take their packs off when riding a lift for a reason.

It’s unsurprising that it was a school day skiing. Someone who didn’t typically ski, wearing things that were inappropriate and unsafe on the hill, had a bad outcome.

Hoodies are almost always some part cotton. They’re horribly unsafe to wear skiing as they’re a hypothermia risk if they get wet at all.

People should only ever wear wool or synthetics in cold environments. Same reason why you should never take a down sleeping bag to a canoe camping trip. Cotton loses all insulation ability when wet.
