I mean, it’s not that interesting.

42% of U.S. GDP comes from the top 5 states and 62% of EU GDP comes from their top 5, it was even higher before the UK left.

    2. For the breakdown of the five:

      – Ethiopia: 185 billion
      – Nigeria: 285 billion
      – Algeria: Also 285 billion
      – Egypt: 349 billion
      – South Africa: 428 billion

(these are more recent numbers which is why it exceeds 1.4 trillion)

You can also do this for US with their richest states (California, New York region, Texas).

Same for Europe with Germany, UK, France, Italy and Spain.

Same for Latin America with only 3 countries with Brazil, Mexico, and Argentine.

      By population:

      Algeria – 47.4 million people

      Ethiopia – 135.5 million people

      Egypt – 107.8 million people

      Nigeria – 236.7 million people

South Africa – 63 million people

Together they’re around 600 million or ~40% of Africa’s total population. So not that weird for them to make up half the GDP.

Really puts into perspective how much uninhabited space there is in Africa and also how much Colonialism and subsequent corruption after decolonization fucked the entire continent

Egypt is really a failed economy by this point heavily dependent on foreign aid. They have 10x the population of neighboring Israel but only around 2/3rds the GDP by comparison.
