How in the heck is this not front page?
“What we [have done] at Treasury is created a dollar shortage in the country,” Bessent said, adding that the strategy came to a “grand culmination in December, when one of the largest banks in Iran went under … the Iranian currency went into freefall, inflation exploded, and hence, we have seen the Iranian people out on the street.

Now that dollar is drained from Iran if US creates a naval blockade for Iranian oil export then Iranian regime might collapse without firing a single shot .

Remember when Trump told Iranian protesters he’d have their back and to keep protesting and take over government institutions?
And then people were reassuring me that a huge flotilla was coming to save them but it takes time but it has been like a month now. And now Trump is talking about having some sort of nuclear deal instead.
My prediction is in the end Iran will make the same type of agreement North Korea did during his first term without any real framework or deadlines and Trump will act like he deserves a Nobel peace prize for ending the conflict.

Actually pretty stupid to say this out loud. Completely validating the regime’s narrative that the protesters are agents of the US (knowingly or not).
Russia must’ve gotten to Trump and asked them to back-peddle.

It’s imminent that USD will erode and lose its “world reserve currency” status.
Decouple from USD now before it’s too late. Dont let trump weaponise it. And don’t be the last one holding usd when it crashes.

Facepalm. You’re not supposed to admit it, you morons! Regime change operations by means of psychological warfare are far more effective if you can claim plausible deniability.
Now, the Iranian regime can blame the economic crisis on outside interference instead of having to take responsibility of their own incompetence and corruption. The goal is to induce the undecided to oppose the regime, not to drive them into their arms.

Yeah this doesn’t add up as the free market exchange crashed, but the state exchange remained stable.
Either the government was exchanging at a huge loss to itself or someone is doing creative accounting.
Edit: Bessent might have lied to Congress. Ayandeh Bank went under in October, not December. Minor detail, but speaks to the credibility of a liar.

Why is Iran so dependent on Americans? If the regime is propped up by the grace of the U.S. it is just a house of cards that tumbles as soon as an American President decides they won’t tolerate it anymore.

““By using secondary sanctions to threaten any global entity trading in dollars with Iran, the US traps Iran’s existing reserves abroad and prevents new dollars from entering the domestic market,” Farzanegan told Al Jazeera.”
I don’t get why people are surprised at this. This was ever a secret. The United States does not want anyone trading with Iran.

And then Trump claimed [Iran told him the killings have stopped and it’s over and there’s no plan for executions](https://www.theguardian.com/world/2026/jan/15/iran-protest-killings-trump-tehran-claims-no-executions) and decided the protesters were no longer being threatened and forgot all about them?
