SSNs don’t need to be changed. Idiots need to stop treating them like passwords. Knowing „your“ SSN does not prove that you are that person. Publish every SSN right now, along with the associated names, on a public-facing website. Let no bank, insurance company, utility company, healthcare, or other service provider have any illusion that these numbers are secret.

Whichever politician commits to arresting all these DOGE clowns and dragging them into court to face charges for this bullshit gets my vote in the next election

    3. Sounds like a good time to kill off SSNs and switch to some sort of public key identification.

    4. Little known…fuck off. That committee was loudly and with reckless abandon skull fucked our entire government, but now they had an oopsie. Kick rocks

    5. Even_Package_8573 on

If the system is this vulnerable, the real issue is why we still rely so heavily on SSNs. Feels like a legacy risk that’s overdue for replacement.

    6. I think mines been floating around the internet since the early 2000. 😂

FTA: „Borges said he saw DOGE personnel appear to give themselves authorization to build this copy despite earlier court orders limiting access, and he warned superiors that the agency might one day be forced to reissue every Social Security number.“

    8. This seems like an appropriate time to remind everyone that’s it’s a good idea to freeze your credit with the 3 agencies to minimize potential damage caused by bad guys getting your SSN.

    9. Almost everyone SSN have been leaked PUBLICLY in Quebec, nothing has been done and nothing will ever be done sadly.

Trump and an overly compliant Congress gave DOGE unfettered access to government data, without any guardrails or access control. Let’s not pretend this wasn’t a likely and expected outcome of the Trump administrations complete disregard for accountability and organizational responsibility

My credit has been frozen for years after multiple other breaches over the years.

    12. We’re in a post consumer protection world. That’s corporate data now.

    13. Traditional-Eye-7230 on

Even before this, everyone should assume their ssn has been exposed, because it likely has. Freeze credit, etc.

It was called the Equifax data breach from about nine years ago. All of our social security numbers are on the dark web. C’mon, Americans, we gave up our identities and right to privacy a long time ago, 2001-2008 to be exact, voluntarily.

    15. Even without DOGE, there have been so many hacking cases that a SSN can no longer be considered secret information. In fact, it never was a secret; Pre-2000, your SSN was probably your employee or student ID number.

    16. swatson7856 on

And everyone involved in the security breach will be prosecuted and imprisoned as traitors, right?

      Right?

    17. robgreenee327 on

Of course they wanted to help use this info to over turn the elections results from 2020.

    18. At this point, whoever actually commits to *taking action*, putting these fucks in jail, and making an example for the rest of the regime, gets my support. I’ve literally been a democrat since the day I could vote, but at this point it’s never been more apparent that they all work for the same people. And they’re not us. Fuck them all. The longer they wait while the rest of the world takes action, the more pissed I get. It’s not even political, it’s fucking basic humanity. What the FUCK

    19. Was the threat coming from inside the building? Was is tweaking on Ketamine?

    20. RebelStrategist on

How about some accountability for those who did this? There is a novel idea. First in line …. Little balls himself. Then Muskrat.

    21. Mitchard_Nixon on

Let me guess – it will be handled by Palantir or Musk and it will be digital ID and it will only cost the US a trillion dollars in government contracts

    22. social security numbers aren’t very secure

      take your number

      add one

you have a valid social security number!

first 3 digits are the area number, typically your state of birth

next 2 digits are a „group number“ based on an area within that state

last 4 are the „serial number“ ordered by when you are born

this was never secure to begin with.

I can’t read the article because of a full screen ad that won’t close, anyone got a summary?

this was intentional as it manufactured consent/incentives to pressure people into filing for new ones so they can either deny or delay the news ones to whom the party doesn’t want to be a citizen, so they can have ‚grounds‘ to detain, de-naturalize ‚home growns‘ (the admin and Donald has openly talked about that) and block voting from all the folks they seem undesirables. Like people of color, migrants from poorer countries or more progressive ones, their political opposition in terms of voters or politicians, LGBTQ+ folks, the differently abled and folks with reported/documented mental illness, the chronically unhoused population (rent only keeps going up with everything else)d anyone who dares to speak out or fight back against what is ahead. They programmed the masses to accept terrorists meaning someone who can be lawfully killed, tortured/abused, and/or detained indefinitely even without due process despite that concept going back to medieval times with the magna csrta. Now they expanded the definition of terrorism to include whomever they want with the new official loose definitions they changed with an executive order, now anyone especially from the previously mentioned groups are targets for being labeled as domestic terrorists and they have already started testing the water on that with no serious push back from the masses or even politically.

They are building more camps in every state than they are „illegal immigrants“ (remember when it was just supposed to be the ‚dangerous ones‘ but now they openly just embrace all migrants regardless of paperwork/status)

the Nazis didn’t campaign on the final solution or concentration camps, they ran on deportations and de-naturalization of „non-germans“

Regular folks didn’t learn from history, the system intentionally aided from that and folks are and have been to pacified by their work and treats to concern themselves with this progressively more obvious blatent descent descent into what will eventually involve a final solution like it did with the Weimar Republic, there are building massive crematoriums for a reason, the global West in terms of regular folks might not have learned their lessons but the fascists did and this time there won’t be all the bodies left over as evidence when they try to erase history.

History doesn’t repeat itself but it frequently rhymes.

These websites are fucking cancer. How do they expect anyone to support them when you can’t even open their pages without multiple pop ups and ads that don’t even allow you to exit or go back to the article.

Thanks the topping on the cake. We were endlessly warned as this would happen and it did from incompetency. Elon Musk Doge IDIOTS. That useless and hurtful agency now compromising our most sacred individual privacy.
I have relatives that lost jobs because of those entitled f’s and can’t get the whore, the horror of seeing all those babies & people that have died out of my head because of aid rotting in warehouses that Elon would not release.

Color me a conspiracist but this feels like a smokescreen to do some nefarious shit.

    28. mercuryqueen1970 on

Maybe the government shouldn’t have given that info to a bunch of teenagers and musk.

    29. Years ago my SSN was literally printed on my cheques.  Its not a secret number. Why would someone knowing it be a security issue?  Companies need to stop using it like it is a secret password.
