For anybody wondering where the one medal for Brazil came from, [it happened this morning](https://www.cbsnews.com/amp/news/brazil-south-america-medal-winter-olympics-giant-slalom-skeleton/)
I would have expected Chile or Argentina to have at least a couple given their southern latitudes and extensive high mountains. They’re both reasonably well developed with mostly stable governments so there should be enough money and administration available to field Olympic teams. The fact they have *zero* suggests they seldom/never participate in the winter games.

This morning, Lucas Pinheiro Braathen made history by becoming the first athlete representing a South American country win a medal of any color at the Winter Olympics and Brazil becomes the first country in the Americas outside of USA and Canada to win a medal at the Winter Games!

I’m honestly shocked Chile or Argentina don’t have any medals.
Crazy how Canada just dominates this list, they really love their snow sports!
Canada with 2/3 the medals of the US despite only having a bit more than 1/10 the population. 🇨🇦💪

At last Brazil’s long legacy in winter sports has been rewarded!

Braathen is a clown BTW.
Bobsledding hasn’t begun this year yet. There’s still hope for Jamaica.
