As essentially a purveyor of software used by white collar workers he understands that if that actually happened his business would collapse, right?
Like he’s pretty much saying “dump Microsoft stock today”.
We’re 26 months into AI being 12-18 months f on replacing everyone’s job.
What do these dickheads think all of these replaced people are going to do? If they’re not working, they’re not making money, and then they can’t buy anything. I don’t understand how they don’t see this as a problem.
White collar tasks replaced in 12 months Buddy, my printer hasn’t worked since 2014 AI’s got bigger battles ahead.
Well, apparently replacing programmers with AI didn’t ended up well for Microslop. This company has become an example, why vibe coding is wrong.
So if they replace all employees with AI and job scarcity increases… who’s gonna buy their products if people don’t have an income?
Well let’s see, yesterday AI recommended I buy pants that didn’t exist, and told me (adamantly) to seal shower weep holes that would have caused thousands in water damage.
Techbros saying „12 – 18 months“ is the same as Donald Trump saying „2 weeks“.
*Can be* is the operative phrase…not *will be*. I work for an AI company. The biggest challenges our customers have are around modernizing legacy IT systems, getting internal buy-in, meeting compliance, addressing security, and running upskill training. Those are hefty issues that do not resolve in months or even a few years.
Can AI snort cocaine in the bathroom? I don’t think so!
It would require a person to train the AI. I’m not training an AI and my boss doesn’t know how to do my job.
so it can’t open a PDF and will call me at 2:30am half drunk
Sure Jan

Microsoft acquiring GitHub and turning it into dumpster fire where there is an incident almost every single effing day is a perfect example of how well they can predict the future these days.
In a year, maybe less, they will have replaced people who created this dumpster fire with smarter, steadier, and less embarrassing. Call it AI if you like. At least then we will not have to pretend incompetence is strategy.
It’s getting worse and less reliable. I simply no longer believe AI is going to replace jobs anytime soon. It has trained itself far too much on other AI outputs. I don’t trust it as much as I used to.
I’ll believe him once he releases a version of co-pilot that is worth a damn.
I’d be impressed if AI could explain to me what most white collar workers actually do.
Says a guy who’s never done most of said white collar jobs.
Can I use AI to write open source Windows replacement?
lol, good luck managing all the change management and internal politics.
While I admire and appreciate that it could be done, the fact of the matter is most enterprises are so risk averse that they have multiple change advisory boards and require manual implementation in so many different facets that could have been automated years ago, that you expect them to just let ai run free without question seems like a pipe dream.
Good luck cutting through all the red tape.
Having worked in consulting for several years now, it’s unlikely that anyone is going to let your ai have crate blanche and while it may be capable, expecting anyone to let it run free without oversight is unrealistic and insane.
Pretty sure CEO of Microsoft is a white collar job so why don’t we start there.
I’ve used the best AI from all the big players. It’s not there yet. Maybe in a few years every white collar worker will have an AI assistant.
Scenes in 18 months when it has actually replaced almost none of those jobs
I an a top engineer for a fortune 500 company. I will greatly enjoy AI doing all of my menial tasks and laugh at anyone who thinks it will be able todo the part of my job I enjoy: coming up with new ways to do things.
AI is nothing but a summary machine. It can summarize human’s previous work, and indeed find previously unknown relations. It’s not going to come up with anything novel though.
They just make these statements to attract attention. There’s no truth or underlying proof of how it’s actually going to be realized in such short notice. This guy probably doesn’t even have the skills and expertise to have a clear idea of what’s going to happen. And/or how these jobs are going to be replaced in a functional or productive way.
But I will say we’re definitely going to get a Mars colony going within 2-4 months.
It sucks cause the country needs to talk about this and the fallout implications but we are still debating if we can persecute pedos. The world is changing and we have this to deal with. 😩
AI is nowhere close to replacing what I do as a mechanical engineer.
Microsoft can’t even keep its Windows 11 system fucking stable. No one is using their shitty AI except people exploiting Notes and AI.
Moooooooooosttttt CEOs dooooooooooont get itttttttttrttttrtt. Is that better mod? Police free speech
I wouldn’t worry about what someone from Microsoft says. They have been wrong or have had really bad product vision about almost every major tech trend. The Internet, Mobile, Touchscreens, Security, AR/VR.
Basically if Microsoft says they see the future as X or we’re building Y then you know you can probably bet against it.
As someone who is in a position where I have been tasked, in part at least, to do this very thing.
If you have good clean and consistently formatted data sets that don’t require assumptions based on business knowledge. Then AI can do a really good job.
But most environments you’d apply AI to aren’t that tidy, AI is forced to make a bunch of assumptions. Those assumptions can be pretty shoddy.
So, getting data and business processes cleaned up
And into a state where the AI can then reliably and repeatedly work within an environment that will be kept clean and stable for it, that’s the trick.
His team at Microsoft has not shipped a single good AI model or product.
Staya, what are u doing? Fire him, he has a reputation among AI scientists for a reason
„Hi, I’m in charge of AI at Microsoft, and its going to replace everything“ – says man who’s job it is to sell his job to his boss.
„Yeah, right“ – Rest of the world
