I do not like this as getting to Leitrim from Kildare would now involved travelling through Cavan or the long way around through Roscommon.
If we’re getting rid of a county, it’s gonna be Wicklow.
The last one made, and literally just for administrative purposes so the Crown could deploy a dedicated army unit in the Dublin and Wicklow mountains. It’s not a real county. Carlow, Dublin and Wexford to expand to consume it.
We can build our first nuclear plant there.
Louth and Leitrim could probably go as well tbf a neighbour could just annex them

If it eventually results in Westmeath consuming it and leading to Westmeath becoming a separate country in the future, sure.
How would you get rid of it?
Swap with the British for Fermanagh? Widen Lough Ree? Make it a car park? Desertification (I anticipate a problem)? Coastal erosion (I see another problem)?
