Canada is a giant country with tiny population mostly compacted into a few population centers. Its amazing we have held onto such a vast territory for 150+ years without much conflict. I can’t think of another nation in history doing so. Its impressive but it was not guaranteed to last forever.
How are we preparing for the very different Arctic region that is coming thanks to climate change? Our entire defence strategy has been that it is a harsh environment that is very difficult to cross and survive. What happens when that changes (and that change is coming)?
I love how people here seem to think it’s a matter of policy or something. Like you can defend the 2nd largest country in the world with 40million people, no nukes and no massive tax hikes and public service cuts.
This is a giant problem for Canada. We have to spend so much money to defend a place that gives us no economic benefit.
This country was already stretched thin when we were ignoring our military obligations.
