San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan once said Mark Zuckerberg convinced him that technology — not law — would shape the future of politics. Now he’s running for California governor with significant backing from Silicon Valley donors.
As tech leaders move from building platforms to funding and potentially shaping state leadership directly, what could this mean for the future of governance? Could regions dominated by major industries increasingly see those industries influence policy from within government rather than from the outside?
I think the good people of California will tell Zuckerberg to go..
Well, you know.
Zuckerberg: „They ‚trust me‘. Dumb fucks.“
This should be his campaign slogan.
no matter how much he spends they will never vote for a weird robot kid who screwed up the internet and created so many social issues. He just wants u ground bunkers everywhere. Scared Billionaires.
The jacquard loom and cotton gin shaped politics. What a nothing statement.
“Movable-type will shape politics.” —some 15th century German along the rhine.
Oh hell no! I’d vote for Newsome before this clown and I think Newsome is a skeevy 0.1%er that will throw anyone under the bus to get ahead! Zuck is psychopathic.
I mean, if he knew anything about history whatsoever he’d know how stupid a statement that was. Technology has shaped politics ever since a hominid managed to impress its tribe by cracking nuts with a rock.
California’s „jungle primary“ system is FUBAR.
According to the ‚rules‘ unique to the State, only the top two front runners move on to the general election. **Not one from each party.** Just the two that got the most votes, regardless of party.
The problem is, despite being a Blue State, there is no Democratic front runner. The race is overcrowded in the extreme, filled with idiots who are asking „why not me?“. The vote is heavily divided because there isn’t a single candidate any of us care about.
There is a very real chance the ballot will have two Republican names on it, and Zuckerberg could be one of them.
So yes, even though we all hate him, he actually could win if he throws enough money at this.
Most of these comments are thinking Zuck is running for Governor. Mahan, the Mayor of San Jose is running for governor.
I’m also confused as to why SF Gate has such a weirdly worded headline.
What is this title? Makes it seem like Zuckerberg is running for governor which is not the case.
