  1. At some point „point of no return“ is like „per my last email“ for climate scientists..

Can we get a quote from Al Gore saying „Real soon now!“ to go along with this article?

  3. SHINITAI-SHINITAI on

Can we just hurry it up already, need a new life form to run the show.

  4. „could set irreversible course by triggering climate tipping points“

could? That is just gullible positive spinning. The course is already irreversible even before „drill baby drill“ won.

    Is this 2015?

We been knew. Did major companies act and governments act accordingly? Not by a long shot, in fact we’re going in the opposite direction.

    Fuck capitalism until extinction comes.

I’m fairly certain geoengineering is going to be the outcome at this point. And that will lead to some really messy politics as countries fight over who controls the thermostat.

  7. One day it’s „the ozone is healing! we are saved!“
The next it’s „we are at the point of no return…. we are doomed….“

I think I picked right by settling in coastal N. California. Rarely it gets hotter than 65F currently.

Even a 10F or 20F increase will be tolerable.

  9. Been hearing EXACTLY this crap for literally three decades now.

Real world- ‚Global Warming‘ is making the earth greener and more fertile. It’s a GOOD thing.

The people crying over it do it for the money

  10. We probably won’t take it seriously until a city is permanently under water or a wet bulb event takes out a region, crops and all.

    Eh, who cares.

Let’s crank out more AI datacenters so we can make lame images and videos that suck the remaining wonder and truth out of the world, and outsource our brains, so we can concentrate on over-consuming shit we don’t need, while we frolic in the sun as it cooks us.

Also the billionaires need to be kept happy with their imaginary numbers.

    Wheee !

It’s been 20 years since „An Inconvenient Truth“ was released.

Batman has been rebooted twice since then. It’s overdue.

    It’s not that I don’t think it’s true, it’s just that I don’t care 🤣

thats why i don‘t save money or anything. that shit is unavoidable at this point and i won‘t be alive to see it

  15. I have a compromised immune system so when it gets hot it begins to really hurt so if I die because of climate change I’m going to be having an angry conversation with god

  16. Absolute BS. It flip flops from heating to ice age multiple times a year. The science community is not unanimous on how it will go. It’s about as sure as the science around wine, one year you are told it’s going to give you cancer and then every other year you are told to have a glass of wine with dinner for your health.

But hey look at the bright side, We’ll have a lot of clean energy once civilizations are covered in solar panels to block out the sun!

We were screwed the last 3 „points of no return“.
At this point we’re just cooked… pun fully intended.

what most regular people don’t understand is how many vicious cycles of warming occur e.g. warming tundra releases methane in clathrates in the tundra which increases warming. Right now we are experiencing unprecedented instability in the polar vortex which is producing extraordinary warming in the arctic which will produce more warming and may cause future polar vortex instability.

  21. Our leaders are so arrogant they don’t give a fuck. Humanity is doomed because of the greediest and most arrogant among us rule the world.

  22. well give us a a date, don’t hold us in suspense, want to make however much time we got left worth something

You know how in Interstellar, even after the apocalypse, there was still „normal“ life on earth. People talked on the phone, recorded videos, drove cars, went to sports matches, etc. And yet, it was still undoubtedly post-apocalypse? That’s gonna be us in 50 years. Except for us, there will be no magic black hole with Matthew McConaughey in it.

Oh good another point of no return we schmucks on the ground have zero control over.

As someone, an older person, who’s kept a garden for decades if something is happening to the climate.

And yet all people will care about is increasing value to the company. I really can’t care about climate change or the earth. It’s too big. I am too little. My boss says, his boss says, his boss’ boss says that what I *really* need to be worried about are my KPIs. Every cent counts.

I have a theory. The world leaders already know this and they also know that 8.5 billion people and growing is unsustainable with capitalism. While they will denie it, they already have plans to reduce the population by half, once robots and AI are more up to speed. I bet at some point there will be a controlled war that will eliminate a large portion of society. The rest of the 4.5 billion will mostly die out from lack of support or modern day slavery. This is the only way to re balance society and the planet. While I hope this isn’t the case, being realistic makes this seem more likely. AI and the wealthy can figure out this problem, but not with 8.5 billion people.

hence why trump wants greenland so his future generations have a nice cozy place to live while the rest of us burn up and take care of thier pampered ass.

News like this makes me regret having a child. At this point, bringing children into this ruined world seems unethical af. Happily, my kid is gay and childfree so I only hope that the environment holds out another 100 or so years so they can have a long, fulfilling life. Obviously I’d rather humanity finds a way to stop climate change before the planet becomes uninhabitable but that seems a little beyond hope.
