She’ll change her tune when they remove Trump and it’s just resubmitted as Vance’s election bill.

  2. That means it’s already been decided one way or another. Murkowski and Collins are the most transparent grift in politics. Take a stand only when it doesn’t matter. Be a reliable soldier whenever needed.

    >“When Democrats attempted to advance sweeping election reform legislation in 2021, Republicans were unanimous in opposition because it would have federalized elections, something we have long opposed,” Murkowski said in a statement. “Now, I’m seeing proposals such as the SAVE Act and MEGA that would effectively do just that. Once again, I do not support these efforts.”

    >“Not only does the U.S. Constitution clearly provide states the authority to regulate the ‘times, places, and manner’ of holding federal elections, but one-size-fits-all mandates from Washington, D.C., seldom work in places like Alaska,” she added.

“Election Day is fast approaching. Imposing new federal requirements now, when states are deep into their preparations, would negatively impact election integrity by forcing election officials to scramble to adhere to new policies likely without the necessary resources,” she said. “Ensuring public trust in our elections is at the core of our democracy, but federal overreach is not how we achieve this.”

In 2021 and 2022, Democrats passed the “For The People Act” through the House, seeking to establish an aggressive set of federal rules to bolster voting rights and ban partisan gerrymandering. A majority of senators supported a slimmed-down version, called the “Freedom To Vote Act,” but it died because of a Republican-led filibuster.

    >At the time, Senate Republicans vehemently opposed the measure, saying election rules must be left to states.

    >“This is not a federal issue,” McConnell told reporters in Jan. 2022 when the bill came before the Senate. “It ought to be left to the states. There’s nothing broken around the country. The system upheld very well during an intense stress during the latter part of the previous Congress. There’s no rational basis for federalizing this election and, therefore, there’s no point in having a debate in the U.S. Senate about something we ought not do.”

Reminder to everyone what these election bills are really about.

Democrats wanted to pass election laws to ensure everyone their right to vote and Republicans wanted to pass election laws to stop everyone except white men from access to vote.

Reminder that Switzerland had all-male governments until it gave women the vote in 1971. Men very much (whether they are aware of it or not) base who they vote for on gender. Republicans know the demographic to cater to win elections. They’ve been doing it since Reagan.

This bill is going nowhere. It looks like there are not even the votes in the House, to say nothing about overcoming the filibuster in the Senate.

After she voted for the big beautiful bill, I could care less what she ‚opposes‘.

Spoiler: she will vote for it after making a huge public display over not liking it

She’s against it until she or Collins folds and votes for it anyway.

  9. Don’t worry. Despite her concerns, she’ll still fold like a lawn chair when it comes time to vote.

She’ll still vote for it, or she’s just the rotating voice of reason this week to try to save face.

Weird how Republicans have a rotating voice of reason a DNA Democrats have rotating villains to both accomplish the fascist playlist

nice try. She’s trying to muddy the water and pretend like what Democrats were proposing was similar to Trump. No. Democrats try to expand voter access and make it easier for people to vote. Trump is doing the complete opposite.

  12. This bitch was a deciding vote in the BBB and she sold out the country in hopes of saving her constituents.

    Fuck her.

She’ll come out against and then somehow she’ll decide to vote for it. Maybe Collins will be the one to vote no. But I’m not holding my breath they’ll do the right thing.
