      Impossible. I saw on the news that Chicago, and thus Illinois, is a lawless shooting gallery of crime and murder. Why, I myself was murdered four times last week.

      High rates in the poorest areas as well as states with generally high suicide rates.

      Just for comparison, in Italy the firearm death rate is about 1.3 per 100,000 people per year, including suicides.

      Turns out owning a gun makes you far more likely to die to a gun shot wound. Like its math or something.

      It’s been said a thousand times, but I don’t see how this data is useful when you include suicides

      As someone who used to help compile the FBI crime statistics in my state, along with other statistics, going by the state level numbers rather than the neighborhood level numbers is incredibly misleading or uneducated. Your conclusions are complete garbage until you get down to the neighborhood level. Most of the gun deaths are the result of suicide or gang shootings, and they correlate with high poverty and strict gun control neighborhoods.

      I don’t think the data or map itself have any apparent narrative and can be interpreted many ways, which is why I found it interesting. I do take issue with the inclusion of the additional notes added, which could definitely be read as having bias.

      I went to Roswell once..
      solo trip from Colorado. Recent divorce. Childhood dream! Someone blew some shit up at a gas station and then two shootings followed outside my hotel. Had no idea NM was a rough spot. Especially Roswell being in the middle of nowhere.
      Guy was screaming outside my door.
      First day there. I had a great time though.

      This map is deceiving in it really favors large populations and makes rural states look like the wild west of gun deaths.
