  1. The text on these labels roughly translates to „time to make your own potato salad from scratch and for cheaper“.

  2. Okei ma ei soovi uskuda et keegi ostaks vähem kui kilo kartulisalatit kümpa eest. Kus alles kombivad piire

    Aeg ise teha

  3. It’s not exactly cheap, but it’s almost always worth the price if one is too lazy to make it themselves. A lot of ingredients, cut into small pieces (which distinguishes Estonian potato salad from, for example, German or South African potato salad). The main thing – Estonian potato salad, fortunately, does not contain vinegar.

Vinegar is suitable for many sides, but not for Estonian potato salad. There are things I can complain about the price of, but I can sometimes, only sometimes, buy potato salad without hesitation if I don’t feel like making it myself. Make it yourself, do it the Estonian way, it comes out good, cheaper, it just takes time.

Because they can is the best answer I’ve come up with.

Potato salad is basically the same price per kg as actual decent quality meat like chicken thigh meat or a good pork mince.

Other salads are cheaper, but also comparatively expensive. Making it yourself gets you something like 1/4 the price or less. Which yeah duh making it yourself is cheaper, but I think salad is a category of food where the difference is ginormous compared to other foods where its much less. For instance making some meat dish from scratch you can maybe get maximum 1/2 the price of buying it ready made. Sometimes the prices are even almost equal.

I quess we’re lazy/busy enough to pay the convenience tax that highly on salads, but not as lazy with other categories. Maybe we don’t like chopping veggies? Or the manufacturers just think we don’t. I dunno.

Deem. Mul tuli lapsepõlve flashback, kus kartulisalati hind Selveris oli laada päeval 25 krooni/kg. Make it stop!

  6. Well, it’s been made in estonia hasn’t it? Grazed by estonian machinery, that alone 4x’s the price of it

But yea, jokes aside, fuck this, you can make a bathtub of it for this price lmao

Do it yourself, easy. Not the first nessessity on the table. But Estonian salad is good not disgusting sour dish. Do not know Usin though.

…lots and lots of chopping. And then people may come at you because you didn’t put in apples, or did put in peas…or onion. Kinda the Estonian version of pineapple on pizza.

Making and selling potato salad is laborious and dangerius. Hence the price.
