      >U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned last week that the world body faces “imminent financial collapse” unless its financial rules are overhauled or all 193 member nations pay their dues, a message clearly directed at the United States.

      >The U.S. owes $2.196 billion to the U.N.’s regular operating budget, including $767 million for this year, according to a U.N. official. The U.S. also owes $1.8 billion for the separate budget for the U.N.’s far-flung peacekeeping operations, and that also will rise.

    2. „not paying its mandatory regular dues“

Lol .. if it can be „not paid“, it is not mandatory. Let’s be honest here. UN has less power than a toddler crying on the floor of walmart demanding a cheap toy.

It is 100% rely on the charity of nation states. If we decides UN no longer helps us for any reason, we do not have to give them a single penny and there is zilch they can do about it. Ditto for any country on the planet.

Trump doesn’t pay anyone. He just sues…like a deadbeat scumbag.

    4. Oh so that’s why he started his own league of dictators with hookers and blackjack😃

    5. How about this, UN can join the board of peace for free, and we’ll call it even Steven

“If you owe the ~~bank~~ UN $400, that’s your problem. If you owe the ~~bank~~ UN $4 billion, that’s the ~~bank’s~~ UN’s problem.”

Lmao, waiting for trump to pay a bill? Get in line behind every contractor in NYC.

    8. Given Trumps usual modus for paying on money he owes I would estimate a big fat zero.

it’s $0 and now he demands you pay him 40 billion to his personal slush fund

Hopefully none unless they get rid of the corruption and antisemitism

    11. ~50 of 193 countries pay their dues each year on average (with it down to ~35 this year). This isn’t just a US problem. Trump sucks and is a pedo piece of shit but most of the UN doesn’t pay.

In addition, with the Russian invasion, many EU states announced increased military spending but didn’t want to cut social services so they axed foreign aid to UN programs and NGOs.

All these articles attacking the US for not paying would have more credibility if other nations actually did what they pledged to do as well

    12. I feel tariffs incoming for the preposterous idea of the US paying back?? They’ve been protecting us so well for the last few years now! How dare we? /r

    13. It’s not only the US that doesn’t pay. There are other countries that also don’t pay.

My feelings about Trump and the success and failures of the UN aside, the organization can’t be depending upon business as usual any longer

And then China will come help fill the gaps, thus taking more soft power from the US.

Can we kick them off the security council? Or better yet, get rid of it? No country should have a veto. This is the unfairness Carney talked about in his speech.

    17. Classic America bad post. The majority of countries in the UN don’t pay their dues in time.

    18. The UN has become useless like the League of Nations before it. Why waste money on it?

    19. The UN: the US is the most evil, imperialist country on earth

The US: stops giving billions of dollars per year to the UN

      The UN: shocked pikachu face

Pretty sure at this point, the UN is going to have to find some neutral ground somewhere other than America to keep operating going forward. I can’t imagine their days are long at this point, under this administration.
