If hungary objects. It is the right thing to do.
Im with hungary on this one.
This should go to an EU referendum in each country. This is way to complicated to expedited without the will of the people.
„Fuck off you c*nt“ is the only correct answer to Orban’s whining
Personally I also disagree with this. Start an economical cooperation first but no EU entrance. Next step, if all has been cleaned from corruption and implementation of EU rules , they can join without voting rights. After 5 or so years they can get voting rights. I don’t think we want another Hungary in the EU.

Hungary is a failed state as long as Orban is in office.
A stopped clock is right twice a day, and on this occasion… The EU runs the risk of creating *another* Hungary if it fast-tracks Ukraine into the EU; it’s decades away from meeting EU accession standards on corruption, treatment of minorities, human rights, and does not exactly have a stellar track record on democracy either; there’s no guarantee that the EU will be as enamoured of whoever is in charge in 5 or 10 years time as they are right now, and if the fundamental constitutional and civil structures are not in place we will just have an even less constrained Orban on our hands.
The only way fast-tracking Ukraine makes sense is if it comes together with the elimination of national vetoes, and with a mechanism in place to kick states out as well as letting them in.
Which is something Orban really should be scared of…
This place is full of teenagers. I bet they first heard a country named Ukraine exists when the war started 4 years ago.
They have no idea how corrupted it is.
Well, that will be a great message to all the other candidates…
Ukraine has been in the midst of corruption scandals during the whole war. Heck, it was the second most corrupt country in Europe only behind Russia before.
I’m totally pro Ukraine and want that we take more direct steps in their support. But letting them join the EU without fixing the problems thoroughly would be unfair to the countries that are in process of joining. Also it would be shortsighted to let such things pass.
If the want another Hungary within the EU, sure, go ahead.
Why would Ukraine join the EU? Maybe I don’t have the whole picture but in the news it’s made to look like “join the EU to feel more safer”. If this is the motivation it’s obviously a ticking time bomb.
Maybe some other insights?
This is so dumb, Ukraine is not even close to be ready. I hope reason will win.
Yes, Ukraine is corrupt and has fucked up economy. But it’s not about economy anymore. Pax americana is over, EU is sprinting away from being an economic block and talking about its own army, and I even hear talks about federalization.
Ukraine has weak economy, EU has weak army who doesn’t know how to fight in full-scale drone wars with nuclear superpowers. Together they can make something that actually works better in both areas.
I don’t think this is a good idea. EU membership should be strictly conditional
>In practice, the initiative would involve fast-tracking Ukraine’s technical preparation for accession, granting it a **form of partial EU membership without the full privileges** provided to member states
Orban will cope and seethe until the end of time.
Yeah, bring in the most corrupt country asap. That will work out well
How predictable that Hungary is being brought into the debate in order to hide the fact that Ukraine meets hardly any of the criteria for EU accession. But if Hungary is against it…
Maybe they can get Hungarys membership and Hungary can start a union with russia.
Loads of checks needed on Ukraine but that would be massive upgrade.
Well, If was Montenegrin/Serbian/Albanian I would be pissed too…
How about we don’t do that
No for Orban, no for any further Hungarian veto madness, yes for normal cooperative Hungary – hopefully soon, yes for developing, stable and peaceful Ukraine, no for Ukrainians membership (yet)
Sounds rushed, shortsighted, and harmful to everyone involved.
All Balkan countries jumping trough hoops for the last 20 years….
So all wee needed is to make a war…
Two speed EU is here…😁
Will they be Tier 1 EU, Tier 2, or the cheapest EU subscription?
The amount of idiots here is incredible. Ukraine is the only country where people spilled blood and died holding eu flags. Their reforms are going at breakneck speed during a war. They have been abandoned by America. But I see russian and far right propaganda is strong.
Yes, leave them out. Let them bleed and give them nothing as they’re so corrupt. Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania. Yea they’re fine. Ukraine is too filthy to join.
You people are insane and none of you have actually been to Ukraine.
Can people read the source??? It’s a PARTIAL membership.
Dont use USA products.

Thread is full contradictions. People claim accepting Ukraine creates a risk of accepting „another Hungary“ while claiming that Hungary is actually correct on this one. Which means Ukraine will be a good addition to the EU.
Also, stop comparing Ukraine to Hungary. Hungary is not fighting to stop russia’s genocidal war.
What’s all the fuss about? If membership (according to the article) is limited and purely nominal, how will that help Ukraine or the EU? Especially during a war. Achievement?
I’m certain that the only reason Hungary is not under pressure to be booted out is because of the fear it would immediately become Southern Belarus outside the EU
What would happen if Ukraine get annexed to Russia? Would we have EU Russia?
Russian trolls have come in full force
Please no.
I can promise it wont happen.
While Hungary obviously is not okay with it, they are not the only ones.
Seems unfair to Armenia who will face the degree of threats from Russia, only their more unsupported and isolated, yet desperately trying to ascend to the EU.
As a consumer, I would welcome the cheaper produce and lower reduction in food prices and possibly energy.
Geopolitics wise, military tech, black sea access/sea lanes and also critical minerals would also be secured under the EU umbrella.
Demographics wise, before we continue to import Indians en masse, we now have a surplus of talent flooding west which already prove be fiscally accretive to nations like Poland, Czech Republic or Germany.
Hungary is described as soft-dictatorship at this point. I see the only viable compromise here to be multi speed Europe with E6 at the top and associate membership for EU candidates working through reforms and integration. Having waiting for unamity when some of the members are evidently compromised by Russian, US interest is a surefire way to death by a thousand cuts.
This is much more preferential than Russia, US carving up our backyard and buying up critical minerals, land for the next frontline.
That’s the last thing we need.
“You are in the EU, but we do not grant you a rank of member.”
Its not happening.
Fuck Orban
At this point we should kick out Hungary.
I don’t care about Hungary and Orban’s traitorous objections.
But Poland cannot possibly allow Ukraine membership until they’ve reconciled with their history on the UPA and Banderites, and allow full cooperation of exhuming victims of the Galician and Volhynian genocide.
Which I’m sure would be happening if not for the war, but still needs to happen. Like jeeze, North Macedonia was blocked from entry for far more petty reasons by Greece/Bulgaria.
They’ll talk for 5 years, fuck-all will happen, and they’ll clap themselves on their backs.
Trade Ukraine for Hungary, we all win.
