      Why is Japanese dominant here, the character set is clearly from chinese initially and was imported to Japan as a sino-xenic word

      Map for China ignores the difference in all the southern/southeastern “dialects”. For instance in Wu dialects native to the areas near and including Shanghai, math is called “算術”, aka “arithmetic”
