That’s gonna be some nasty damage with this amount of arcs chewing through the electric installations. Volgograd is a big city so one substation down won’t mean lights out. But the grid is brittle, so a blackout can be achieved.
A city this far from the frontlines in darkness will raise more questions towards the kremlin whether this war is worth fighting.

Ah, I can explain the cause. When the drones strike the substations, they let out the magic purple smoke (or MPS).
The MPS is inside every electrical device. When it’s inside, the device works great. But if it escapes, it won’t work at all, because electricity is magic and without the magic from the magic purple smoke, it won’t work.
You can see this at home, for example if you damage a laptop, the MPS escapes and it won’t work. Sometimes you notice that a larger device, like a car, can leak MPS all day. This is because a car is larger and has a larger reserve of MPS, so it can keep driving even with a leak, but eventually the MPS leak becomes so severe the car just breaks down entirely.
Power substations (and other industrial sites) have a truly massive reserve of MPS, which is why we see the electrical arcs in addition to everything else.

Needs more strikes to make sure the damage isn’t repaired but replaced if possible. That’s much more difficult to overcome.
