France also historically had presidents remaining in power well over a decade, and the Dutch had the same PM for like 15 years until 2024.
Voting doesn’t make a country democratic just look at Iran and having a long serving leader doesn’t make one an authoritarian state on itself.

As a Russian who moved to Kazakhstan and will live in Germany, fuck Putin.
From what I have seen so far countries must have long term policies, you only change surface stuff every 4 years. So democracy is when at top you have long term human eating pedophiles who promote and chose politicians who will win, you change politicians, shadow on top stays the same.
On the other hand you have systems where there is long term president and so country can implement long term policies.

This is why our lives are going to keep getting worse and worse. Democracy isn’t electing one stooge after another. Yeah, Putin is a dictator and Lukashenko is a puppet, but before the invasion Ukraine was constantly considered as one of the most corrupt country in Europe, so the other guys are just puppets for oligarchs.
We also elect officials, yet the trajectory doesn’t change and the policies don’t change. That’s because all politicians are the same, you just like your shit to be served in a bowl instead of a sandwich.

The same party ruled for 53 years.
