    1. Wasn’t this percentage difference also caused by a tendency of Yugoslavia to pretend there were fewer Albanians in Yugoslav Macedonia, either by listing them as „Macedonians“ or „Vlachs“, especially if they were Christian, and „Turks“ if they were Muslim???

There are lot of neighbourhoods in western Türkiye, where people emigrated from different Balkan countries. I got a friend in high school back then. His grandparents were from Macedonia. There were lot of migrants from Macedonia, Bulgaria (mostly late 80’s because of Jivkov) or Albania. Mostly Turks but also other Muslims with different backgrounds as well. Half of the people in some cities like Bursa or Sakarya can trace their roots to different Balkan countries. They’re „turkified“ in the mean time though.

    4. It’s probably because I’m colourblind, but i can’t distinguish between the colours of Turks and Albanians on these.

    5. I personally know many Turks from North Macedonia that are ”turkified” Albanians. Who’s grandmothers had Albanian names, spoke Albanian, but suddenly their children are Turks with Turkish names and assimilated Macedonian last names. Their children and grandchildren don’t speak a word of Albanian anymore.

I like how these posts just end up with people trying to push that turks are now albanians or that albanians are turks

It’s always so fun, especially when you’re in my field of work and have looked at all the genetic studies and realize you’ll find more turk in another balkan country than in albania
