From what I can tell, the guy has nothing of substance to bring back or even say. Up until this visit, I feel the CPC could have sat on the sidelines and criticized the Liberals for not engaging with the US or getting anything done. After Jivani’s visit, the CPC is still making a big huff about the need to engage with a non-interested and/or completely irrational partner, but the CPC now looks more incapable than the Liberals of getting a deal. In other words, Jivani went to the US and reinforced the belief of many voters that the conservatives wouldn’t be anymore useful on the US/foreign policy issue than Carney and that the Liberals are justified for disengaging from the US who’s become an unstable and and destructive partner. This is the type of bullheaded move that the Reform-style members struggle with.

This buffoon went to Washington promoting the China deal as awful? Is this guy that stupid? 78% of Canadians are pro China deal.
The US has a bigger deal with China than Canada. Can someone please tell the Canola farmers that a member of team blue is trying to hurt their pockets?

Jivani is deliberately trying to undermine carney with this bullshit. The conservatives strategy appears to be rushing/bullying the liberals to say yes to whatever one sided deal trump wants, and when the liberals say no they’ll attack them from „hurting the country“ by not making a deal (with the last person you’d want to make a deal with).
It’s just so obvious what their pivot is. All of them are traitors and liars

Okay, let’s be clear here – this is political showboating – „look at me, I can get an audience with the VPUS!“.
Practically speaking, we should recognize that even if the government was to permit Jivani a role in negotiating with the current US administration, it would effectively be a „conversation through an intermediary (Jivani)“, and that is hugely problematic because it turns into a game of telephone. Worse, what reason do we have to expect that the messaging from Jivani back to the government will be honest?
IF a proposal had been put forward that Jivani would attend the negotiations „because the US wanted him present“ (for whatever reason _that_ might be), one would be left wondering why those negotiations required Jivani’s presence.

Ah yes, the ‘trust me, bro’ political strategy that the current crop of conservatives love to employ but haven’t yet managed to realize it accomplishes quite literally nothing other than to maybe boost their social media presence for a day or two? Brilliant. Keep at it, losers.

I’m ashamed to have this guy as my representative. Parachuted into a generally safe conservative riding. Please CPC if we must have a conservative can he at least be a local.

I doubt many in his riding are thinking of this at all. Hes just a random MP and has no legal foreign policy authority. This makes as much sense as some random US House member visiting China to discuss international trade. All he did was hang out with his buddies in Washington DC. Not really breaking news to be fair.
