I don’t want to be one of these “the populace is dumb” people, but I’m sure there’s going to be a fair amount of voters who think they’re voting for their federal MP in this byelection.

The only thing I can muster to say about this is that I genuinely hope this will set off a series of events in which either party is crushed and the progressive votes go to the one left standing so that they could make up an actual opposition to Ford. Of course I would prefer the NDP to be the one left standing but at this point we have to take what we can get. Progressive vote splitting aside I don’t think there is a high likelihood that either party is destroyed from this, its wishful thinking from me at this point. Doug Ford is genuinely a highly intelligent political strategist even though he is outwardly presenting as a loveable dunce, and the incompetence from the Ontario Liberals and NDP is an addition to why he has been so successful.
