Just throwing away hard earned tax payer dollars, Canada post is not profitable and won’t change their business model enough to make a profit.
Just rip the bandaid off and let them fall, there are other more reliable services out there.

This crown corp will never succeed. Amazon killed it long ago.

Denmark abandoned all postal letter delivery as of last month. And they won’t be the only one.
About time we just rip off the band-aid, and tell the delusional union to stuff it.

Public Workers vs Private Workers.
There is no comparison between them.

Am I the only one who thinks snail mail still has value as a service, especially to those in remote communities? If there wasn’t Canada post, would private industry be mandated to service those communities? Would they jack up the costs to everyone else?

Why are we furloughing a large part of the public service to save $$$ but also giving Canada Post a billion dollars?

What financial measures were used to ensure they could pay back this loan or the previous one?
If i ask a lender to borrow money to “grow” my business i need to show how i can do it..
Based on all public information Canada post doesn’t have the ability to pay this back.
So why are the tax payers underwriting a failing venture?
This is a “government bailout”

„Loan“ that great. What about the other ones never paid back that take tax payers money. Canada post is way beyond being a company like they want and claim. Become a crown cooperation and federal employees or declare bankruptcy like ever other delivery company. Enough already with you wanting the best of both worlds with zero accountability!

It’s disappointing there are people lined up at food banks, homelessness is at an all time high and hospital waits and our healthcare that isn’t suitable for a rat but we’ll keep shoveling money to something that can’t be fixed. Might as well give another billion to CBC while you’re at it
BrightEdge8171 on
Loan- probably a forgivable loan- but that’s fine as it’s a overall benefit to everyone in Canada. Canada Post probably should double the cost of stamps though. Might sound dramatic but when I paid $30 to send a letter during the strike, there is great value in a $1 stamp that could easily tolerate an increase in price

I remember during the last strike how the postal workers declared that they weren’t subsidized by taxpayer funding in any way whatsoever, and that the previous massive „loan“ was an aberration which would be promptly repaid.

My mom spent $130 in early December to ship a package with a few small Christmas gifts for my son (we live abroad) and it never arrived. Tracking says it hasn’t left Canada and they’re making her jump through hoops to get a refund. They also lost my tracked immigration documents just a few months before that. We will NEVER use their service again. Not ever.

What do you call a loan that will never get paid back? A bail out! This is just more blarney from the carney crew.
