    1. This is misleading, as it only shows expansion that stuck. The Revolution and Napoleon made extensive territorial expansion, that were soon after reversed.

      No, this is France up to 1798. Napoleon’s conquests came later. This was just tidying the borders compared to Napoleon’s somewhat extravagant extension of the departements. Louis Quatorze probably annoyed more HRE residents than old Boney.

      They were also fighting all the Spain, England, NL, Belgium etc all around Latin America (called ‚New World‘ or ‚The Indies‘ at the time).

      And now they are proud to board one russian ship, while being bullied out of Mali and all of North Africa =(( sadge.

      Louis XIV’s expansionism and long reign are very visible here, although his successor’s additions are also remarkable. The Comtat Venaissin was also interesting, basically a small bit of the Papal States in France.
