Mahmood is absolutely right here. If you refuse to accept your returned illegal immigrants, then letting your citizens in is a national security threat. The potential visa bans are absolutely justified.

    > It is understood that India, Pakistan, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Somalia and Gabon are all resistant to returns deals and it is possible that the government could look at sanctions for those countries.

India already accepts all deported citizens with valid documents

BBC casually name dropping it with Somalia. Nothing has changed at its anti Indian editorial desk.

This is very welcome and long overdue – its an obvious start on yet another issue that the Tories couldnt be bothered with in their 14 years of office. Important to note though that this is very much the low hanging fruit. Namibia, Angola and DRC are the 3 countries and the illegal migration (small boats visa fraud/overstays) from those 3 will be absolutely trivial and make no measurable difference. I imagine for this measure to be seriously impactful you need the same leverage against Nigeria, probably South Africa, maybe Ghana.

  4. but if people coming in on boat tear up their passports. do you still take them in?
