I don’t blame them. Who wants to travel where people are being rounded up and detained on the daily? It’s madness and if it doesn’t stop, who knows where it finally will.

The last quote in the article is off the mark. A lot of Canadians would probably not care much about tariffs – that’s business level stuff, not perceived as affecting holiday plans and such. But the 51st state rhetoric had us enraged, and it has not cooled down.

I actually wish the fascism contributed more to our distaste for the US. I think a lot of Canadians wouldn’t give a shit about ICE as long as they weren’t affected, sadly. But threats to our sovereignty are taken extremely personally.

The border at Peach Arch has never been more dead in decades. Thanks for one guy for ruining arguably the most tightest alliances between two countries.

The US government has been clearly pursuing isolation on an international level through its foreign policy, so we should not be surprised that this is affecting almost every area of US economy as intended.

  5. Dear Canada.

We, Denmark, shares land border with you guys.
I would suggest that you join the EU. Its not like the group of countries needs to be limited to only be European countries anyway. The more the merrier. And I could absolutely see it be a great addition as you share values and youd get access to the EU markets.

  6. Same for Europe. Crazy how many ads of airlines that offer very cheap flights to the USA.

  7. It’s not just Canadians neither, soooo many Europeans, my mrs and I cancelled our trip to San Francisco (7+ months ago) and many of our friends have cancelled their trips, well over a dozen.

Our Canadian company used a US based credit card processor (website based and terminal based), and we switched to a Canadian based one; same for payroll software. 2 other saas products we use daily are being swapped as well once we are done with the evaluation of the Canadian alternatives. Our website was also hosted by a US based company, and has been switched to a Canadian one with actual hardware in Canada (not sitting on AWS). All together that’s an easy $2000 a month in fees no longer heading south.

Good, keep boycotting the US. Anything that hurts Trump’s economy is a good thing.

Why should I risk going across the border?

I don’t want to be detained. I don’t want my phone to be searched. I don’t want to go to jail because I posted a meme of Donald Trump on Facebook.

  11. Interestingly I had not been to Canada in 20 years and I went twice last year.

America: Canada, we want to make you our 51st state.

Also America: Why are you not visiting me 🔫

As an Australian, for the first time in my life I’m being served tourism ads on YouTube to holiday in the USA.

Zero fucking chance in the state it is right now.

  14. I used to laugh as an 18 year old when US border guards used to ask me if I was ever a member of the communist party. Now they ask what do I think of Trump and what do I write on social media. That’s insane. Americans have always been snowflakes. I love Americans and am even married to one, but I refuse to travel to any country that doesn’t have due process for everyone.

  15. Is it American, who can blame them. I don’t think we truly respect how insulting it is to threaten someone’s sovereignty in the way that we did. The fact that our treatment of our closest allies has done nothing to sway the Republicans political base is a testament to how truly brain dead and propaganda riddled Americans really are. Make us suffer, watch us bleed, hopefully enough Republican voters are hurt and disenfranchised by this to act. Allowing the Republicans to stay in power will eventually lead to the collapse of our society.

  16. Went to Canada over Thanksgiving ( to get away from my MAGA cousins) and loved Montreal. 4 days of great history, food, bars, live music, great customer service and people.

    Will be back!

  17. Yeah if I wanted to visit a country with a dictator I’d go somewhere with more culture.
