“I’m racialized, I am a woman and I am a mother.”
How does that qualify one to be an MPP? In any case, this will be an interesting test to see how Erskine Smith navigates identity politics issues.
>Some in Erskine-Smith’s camp acknowledge there is speculation that he could be barred from running in the riding because of his leadership candidacy.
They’re talking about [this](https://x.com/jakelandauto/status/2019494715670876380?s=46&t=Z5WtbMLVT3x0AIAdehG-zw). If the OLP blocks leadership candidates from seeking the candidacy in Scarborough Southwest, this will be the most obvious corrupt act they have done. It will alienate many party members and turn off new members from joining.
If true, it’s honestly disgusting the lengths the OLP establishment will go to prevent Nate from becoming party leader. It’s tiring. I get he rubs some liberals the wrong way, but this is honestly excessive. Even if you don’t support Nate as leader, you have to at least acknowledge that an open nomination is the fairest way to settle this. Whoever wins, wins, and whoever doesn’t, respects the results.
The OLP leadership are still angry that Crombie got ousted, and know that they’ll be next if NES wins the leadership. They have been completely incompetent, whining about how a leadership race in 2026 is too difficult, but can seemingly move pretty fast when there’s a threat to their jobs.
I guess it’s not all that different from the federal NDP leadership. Competence is hardly to be desired when you only have your job due to incompetence.
Admittedly, this has the potential for being a mess, but it is nonetheless dumbfounding how the OLP can’t seem to get out of their own way.
A three way race in the province, and despite decades of being in government, the OLP has regressed to losing races, by tripping over their own feet.
>She also noted he might be viewed as a “carpetbagger” in Scarborough Southwest even though he represents a neighbouring riding.
This is the most insane self-serving argument I’ve ever seen. This isn’t Poilivere living in Ottawa his whole life running in rural Alberta, it’s a guy who has represented the riding *literally* across the street for a decade. It’s the same city, there are no cultural differences between Beaches-East York and Scarborough Southwest that would make him unsuitable.
I dont want him to win the leadership but I dont see any reason to block him from running in this by-election. That being said, im not really sure how candidates are chosen for MPP but I dont really see why it has to be him running here if there are other potential MPPs that want to run? Like, him declaring he’ll run here shouldnt just automatically make him the candidate?
I can foresee yet another fours years of Ford after 2029. The OLP just can’t stop trying to lose. How disappointing.
