Proud Australia has less. More billionaires, more inequality.

The title and subtitle of this map make it meaningless. Country of citizenship and country of residence are not necessarily the same.

I’m shocked that Canada has more billionaires then Japan. Even Mexico has a shocking level of Billionaires.
For its population level North America is stacked with billionaires. Yes US does alot of the heavy lifting there, but Mexico and Canada are still very high as well.

Does Forbes list people who are definitely billionares but are hiding it though?
Because Putin officially lives in a small apartment and makes 120k a year. In reality he might be one of the ten richest people in the world. Some countries are pretty sketchy about how they report wealth.

Ah yes, the famous colour scheme that goes from bright to dark within each colour and goes yellow – blue – green. Very intuitive indeed…

Marcos Galperin (the owner of MercadoLibre.com) probably the richest man in Argentina, who happens to be a billionaire, holds Argentinian citizenship, he was born here, but currently resides in Uruguay. Should we count him in UY too? if so, then the map would be wrong as it needs to have at least have UY in yellow.

If you did the same with PPP, Brazil would have at least 250 billionaires, their currency is shitty.

Two things:
1) The nature of individual vs family money makes this tricky to measure.
2) Many billionaires hold or are eligible for citizenships in multiple countries:
– Elon Musk: South Africa, Canada, USA.
– Peter Thiel: Germany, USA, New Zealand.
And this is to say nothing about passports of convenience that can he acquired for low six figures.
