No doubt we will hear the term pragmatism on here repeatedly despite the form of pragmatism we see now in Canada is leading to rising inequality and reduction in services.
Davies makes a great point that politicians abandoning their constituents values will breed more cynicism in voting when people second guess if their candidate will stay true to their values.
>“When Canadians see politicians betray the values and policies that they claim to believe in, I think it damages our democracy and it breeds cynicism in our politics,“ Davies said.Â
Agreed, and this is why I’m against floor crossing unless it’s followed by an immediate by-election in the floor-crosser’s riding. I know this Begum situation isn’t quite floor crossing, but still. Would her constituents have still voted for her if they knew she was going to turncoat and go with the liberals?Â

>“I’ll leave it to Ms. Begum to explain to the people of Scarborough Southwest why she’s abandoning the progressive policies she claimed to believe in to run for a party that is clearly governing like a conservative party.“
I could buy into this line if she had crossed the floor from the NDP to the Liberals. Voters can reject her party switch by voting for someone else.
