Under development and geography surprise you? You do know that Brazil is basically like a swamp, right?

It’s highly inaccurate. Old data probably. Way less rail in Nova Scotia than those blurry purple so pixels say. I know there is more in Thailand Laos than this shows too.

me and my homies hate juscelino kubitschek. give us brazilians the rail network we deserve already!

Best part is that the Iranian railway was built by the Soviets and Brits during ww2 basically just to use the entire country as a road between the indian sea and Russia

There are no railway networks in central (Visayas) and southern (Mindanao) Philippines. Those might be old railway networks during the colonial era.

    6. Nitpicking: The rail line running through Malaysia is inaccurate.

The line on the eastern side does not connect to Thailand (yet). It should terminate in the northeastern end of the peninsula just south of the border.

    7. Proof the us doesn’t have passenger rail because it doesn’t want to. The rails are there.

    8. Similar to the US, Brazil adopted auto-centric policies in the mid 20th century which favored highways over inter-city rail.

In Brazil, we used to have more trains, in the 50s our president decided to prioritize cars too much and started to get rid of the trains. It is the same one who built Brasilia, Juscelino Kubitschek.

    10. You’ve seen what that big empty middle bit of Brazil looks like, right?

Good luck building a railway through the rainforest, and you’ve got a wonderful surprise waiting for you in the shape of the second tallest mountain range in the world once you manage to make your way to the other side.

We absolutely overuse air travel as a species but we should probably give the interior of Brazil a pass on this issue.

This illustrates very well how rich some current poor countries used to be, such as Cuba, Argentina and the US

Pretty impressive for Australia considering the population density. Shame there’s no high speed rail though.

Brazil is pathetic, all because of policies that started specially in the 50s that focused on highways over rails

    15. It is a really inaccurate for Russia. Transpolar railway from Salekhard to Noviy Urengoy was mainly closed due to melting of permafrost in 90s. The line from Surgut to Nadym was constructed but it is not shown. Moreover the Amur-Yakutsk railway is missing. Some another inaccuracies include Kilemary railroad which were closed in early 00s. For Russia this map shows the railways somewhere in 2000-2003 but not 2022

This map has several areas just at a cursory glance. Be vigilant out there people.

I was surprised at the railroad through Siberia, it was like a thin blood vessel

    18. What’s supposed to be surprising about Brazil? That they don’t have trains going through the rainforest?
