Quick rundown: Nate will seek the OLP nomination to run in the Scarborough-Southwest *provincial* by-election, thereby allowing MMM to remain in Beaches-East York while also giving himself a boost for the OLP leadership race.

Feels like the fix is in as far as the olp leadership race is concerned now. Not having a seat was such a fundamental failure for Crombie and we’re getting that out of the way this time.

This is a really interesting choice for Nate, given that the OLP is far below in 3rd place in the riding.
While Nate does have the name recognition, the party still lacks a permanent leader, which will give some people hesitation to vote for a Liberal.
I’m guessing Nate is betting that people will want a potential Leader/Premier living in their riding.
I’m curious to see how this will play out.

I can’t help but think that there has to be some risk to creating this overly convoluted game of musical chairs, with multiple different byelections. Still, this area is so safe for the Liberals that there likely won’t be any real backlash.
What a nightmare day for the ONDP though, I couldn’t think of a worse possible series of events short of Ford calling yet another snap election.
