    1. It doesn’t matter who the President is, the US has never been our friend. We don’t have any friends. No country does. If the US decided to invade us no one would come to our aid.

My dad has 5 siblings who all live in the states so we spent a significant amount of time over there… like 4-5 trips a year. We’re not going back until trimp is out of office… and even then it’s going to be a wait and see… I thought of America as a second home, it’s sad to see what it’s become

Things are bad, but time will tell. Still I won’t hold my breath on the U.S. learning much until there is objective evidence.

Let’s assume the U.S. elects a Democrat for President and they do everything right, moral and sensible. Let’s also assume that Congress elects Democratic majorities to help the good Democratic President, and said government restores order and sense and honours its treaties and promises with the world and reversed Trumps imperialistic visions.

Sounds great, but how do we/ the world know this will continue and after 4-8 years of good faith governance that the American people don’t elect a Republican who will do all the same crap Trump and the current crop have pursued? I have a ton of great American friends and my heart goes to them having to live under a regime that half of their citizens elected.

To make the U.S a trustworthy friend it would require the U.S. Republican Party to get away from being a nihilistic death cult, and I have no faith at the moment.

Trump wants Canada to break and go bankrupt forcing us to join the States. Thanks to Trudeau for putting the thought in Trump’s head. That’s why he’s not motivated to sign new free trade deals, threatening and put tariffs on us, not wanting us to broker any deals with other countries.

And when we do broker a deal or shop elsewhere, he threatens us again with new or bigger tariffs. Today the bar is set this high, tomorrow the bar is raised to yet another higher level, and again and again…

The States are not our friend or an ally right now but the bully in the playground and as far as I’m concerned, I’ll do what I can to avoid anything made or produced in America. Every little bit helps because there is a business in the states suffering from Canadians not purchasing their products.

The US has destroyed its international reputation and its going to take more than one friendly president to fix it. No country on earth can trust them for anything and it will take decades to rebuild that trust. Hopefully they’re having fun winning all the time because theyre going to start getting some hella raw trade deals.
