A strange kind of historical justice can be discerned here. Most of the hardships of the last 46 years in Afghanistan can be connected in one way or another to the Soviet special operation of 1979–1989. Now it is payback time. Russia (which claims to be the heir to the Soviet Union) is greatly strengthening the Afghan opium poppy sector.

Low morale is just a short term problem. They wont live long enough for it to become a issue in the long term for the russians. The number of recruited keeps up with the number of casualities. So they dont longer
