Ich bin wirklich überrascht, eine solche Antwort zu bekommen? Hat jemand auch solche Begegnungen erlebt?

Yes, housing is one of the areas where you will face the most open discrimination in Germany.

people are diverse and often unpredictable. if you want a generalized reply, ask chatgpt.

my opinion: unless you’re looking to rent a whole apartment yourself then discrimination is not allowed but if it’s a WG then it’s fair game and the people who are already living there can do whatever they want.

  3. I think a straight racist would just not reply,

this might be one of those cases were somebody had bad experiences with a type of international student and now sticks to Germans.

Like a friend is also 100% not racist, but after several times having problems with men from cultures where the mother does basically everything until they move out (aka they were such pigs since they were not used to clean and just did not care about dirt), he swore that when he went from student housing project to living in a 3 or 4 student shared flat, that they would exclude men from certain nationalities

yes, unfortunately. and even when you get a place they’ll comment. i had someone tell me they picked me because their children live in the building and they could tell i wouldn’t be like one of those „traumatised, violent immigrants that steals the shoes left in the hall.“ i took the place because i was desperate but it made me feel so grimy.

I think its normal .he/she told you that they had a bad experience with international roommates and they maybe don’t want this experience again .
It’s really normal especially in germany

Are you maybe Indian or from that region?

That would most likely explain it. Many people in germany don’t want to live with Indians due to poor hygiene and cooking smell issues (strong spices, not opening windows even while cooking, leaving the heating on constantly, etc.).

  7. Yes. As a foreigner looking for an accomodation in Germany, it also happened to me several times.

Normal…no because most will not answer you honestly to this point. But normal in a sense of „did many actually have bad experience or it’s a racist lie“? It’s usually either or. Lots of Bad experiences and lots of racists

The way the person mistyped and chose some words tells me they’re older. Unfortunately it’s normal to be rejected for stupid reasons. My former landlady was pretty old and only accepted women because she had “bad experiences with men”
