    1. If you’ve never seen the Coumbia River Gorge, it’s one of the prettiest places on earth, and the river is a mile wide in places!

I live near the mouth of the Mississippi River. This graphic should make it clear why there are no white sand beaches in Louisiana.

I had no idea the Missouri and Columbia river originated so close together.

I guess the Great Lakes/St Lawrence river didn’t get included, because it borders on Canada, but it would be between the Mississippi and Columbia. It’s awesome watching it flow by Detroit or Niagara!

    5. You can see how the Colorado River peaks in the middle as farmers and cities in the SW take enormous amounts of water from a basin that does not get much precipitation

In hindsight, was it a good idea to have so much water going through just a few rivers?

I am a big believer the is a huge correlation between the amount of cold water going down the Mississippi and the hurricane season.

Much, much cold water this winter..should be light on hurricanes….

If I got on an innertube with a keg floating next to me at the head of the Missouri River, could I make it to the Gulf of Mexico before it’s tapped? How many kegs would I need?

As a Virginian, to see the James so comparatively low gives me an appreciation for some other rivers. The James is massive in Hampton Roads (although a tidal estuary mostly), but it stretches all the way across the state.
