By the CCP’s twisted logic, they think they can illegally annex Japan’s sovereign territory,

      >“*to prevent Taiwan from taking steps towards independence*“

      When it’s already independent.

The CCP has never governed Taiwan, unlike Japan.

Even if Chinese vessels were to circle Japan’s territorial waters around the Senkaku Islands a hundred million times, that still wouldn’t magically turn them into Chinese territory.

Uotsuri Island, the main island of the Senkakus, has a lighthouse installed by Japan and regularly maintained by the Japan Coast Guard. When Chinese nationals landed there in the past, they were arrested by the JCG and deported back to China.

Japanese people actually lived on these islands in the past.

In short, Japan has a history of residence, construction, and law enforcement in the Senkaku Islands. China’s “history,” by contrast, seems to consist mainly of sailing ships around the islands in circles and insisting that this somehow counts as sovereignty.
