Basierend auf dem, was ich gesehen habe, sieht Bulgarien in Bezug auf Löhne und Lebenshaltungskosten besser aus als Rumänien und Griechenland, aber diese Karte zeigt, dass es doppelt so schlecht ist?

Greek here. Greece’s wages are higher than Bulgaria’s but prices are even more. Minimum wage here is 1026 euros while Bulgaria’s is 550 euros (gross wage and 12 wages for each, over here we have 14 so I converted). Gas price here is 1,80 for reference and rent for a studio in Athens is around 500-600 euros. Greece’s problem is low wages relative to cost of living, Bulgaria has lower wages but lower prices too.

No, it’s not true, Eurostat has us a little bit behind Romania, not 50% lower.

I’d take these numbers with a grain of salt. It doesn’t really take into account social services people get from the government and the social net. Without a detailed methodology we don’t know what is used to calculate the results. Bulgaria is the poorest country in the EU but this seems too stark of a difference to be believable.

The data is wrong. Realistically Bulgaria is closer to Hungary or Slovakia and above Greece and Romania from other relevant sources

    5. The grey sector in Bulgaria is almost half the economy. We have no clue how much we make.

    6. A lot of people work in the grey sector – legal jobs, but are paid cash so they don’t pay tax and are not counted here.

In general we have severe income inequality. People working in IT are doing fine. People in small towns are struggling.

These numbers don’t look right. There is no way the Bulgarian and Romanian numbers should have such a massive disparity, and also the Bulgaria figure seems to be nominal, not PPP.

I looked at multiple sources online (including OECD) and couldn’t find where these came from, but everywhere I looked the BG / Rom figures were fairly close.

      Fake map

Actual figures for disposable median income adjusted for PPP (PPS, purchasing power standard) for 2022:

      Greece 10841
      Romania 10033
      Bulgaria 9671
