Controlled opposition. It is way past time for Democrats to clean house.

    2. CouchCorrespondent on

He seriously thinks a 20,000+ group, who literally signed up so they can abuse people they don’t like, can be reformed?

He is in an alternate reality.

    3. I’m not sure what people are expecting when the leader of the Senate Democrats openly admits that his guiding star is a couple of imaginary (Republican) friends instead of the real live people trying to get him to listen.

      Can’t make this shit up.

    4. This article is exactly right.

Schumer has already pre-positioned us into a negotiating position of irrelevance by giving a list of such weak, unenforceable, and ineffective „demands“ that would do little to nothing even if ICE *did* give 100% compliance, while also shitting all over what little leverage we had by agreeing to support the rest of the bill unconditionally before we even sat at the table.

Spoiler alert: They won’t. They will comply with Schumer’s demands as much as Pam Bondi is complying with the law requiring the release of the Epstein files. Democrats will once again come away looking like Charlie Brown thinking that *this time,* Lucy really is going to let him kick that football. And they’ll be played like fools. Again.

And this will be the *third* time this happens. In one year.

Schumer and Jeffries both need to resign.

    5. Schumer, what are the consequences going to be when they ignore the shit out of you? They are ignoring the law now. There needs to be consequences for what they’ve done now and more consequences for what they will do in the future. If you don’t have a plan for that, you need to get the fuck out of the Senate and find someone who does.

      >Chuck Schumer is poised (again) to throw away Democrats’ leverage with a deal that allows ICE weeks of completely unrestrained terror in the streets, so that once public outrage has subsided and Democrats are in a much weaker position, they can (maybe) negotiate some unenforceable reforms that ICE will abide by as much as they’ve abided by every other law they’re currently breaking,” the petition reads.

      >”Because of the incredible organizing of hundreds of thousands of Americans on the ground, and the ultimate sacrifice of heroes like Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti, Democrats were finally in a position with real leverage,” the petition continues. “To abandon that fight now, as Schumer is doing, is downright complicity. Americans, Democrats, and Renee and Alex deserve so much better. Chuck Schumer must resign.”

We will never have true opposition as long as Schumer is at the helm. Same with Jeffries. They are beholden to their donors and their own self interest.

Democrats should never have asked to separate the ICE funding bill from the other government funding bills. They lost the advantage of shutting the government down.

Separating the ICE funding bill is pointless since ICE already has funding from the one big ugly bill. ICE will continue to operate even if the $10 billion in annual funding is taken away. So, no there is no threat to shutting down ICE.

Demanding ICE not wear masks, acquire warrants and have proper training is already required. They ignore all of them. So, tying the $10 billion funding to these demands is meaningless.

Senate Democrats have lost the chance to demand that ICE and DHS be eliminated permanently.

You could make a code of conduct that would go a long way toward ending these transgressions, but you also need to be willing to prosecute those who continue to violate civil rights. Until Justice presses charges against the murderers plus all the other little toadies that simply assault or pepper spray people for expressing their opinions, it will not go far enough.

Call your congress critter and tell them what you think. Yes, it matters. Yes, they keep track.

Make your voice heard, don’t let the far right be the only loud ones.

You’d think someone as Jewish as Schumer would see the Nazi for the trees…

    11. J-the-Kidder on

This isn’t even a question anymore, and hasn’t been since the first cave in – he’s a complicit fool.

    12. It’s weird that people are still expecting anything other than downright complicity from this guy. I mean, he has a pretty solid track record, doesn’t he?

    13. PurpleGarbageDonkey on

I will remember Schumer them the same way we remember Neville Chamberlain. A feckless coward obsessed with appeasing fascists.

    14. Schumer, a moderate republican, also known as the leader of the democrat senate minority should cross the isle and be with his real party.

    15. naththegrath10 on

They want to be remembered for not rocking the boat too much because that makes donors uncomfortable.

    16. they’re all collaborators. if you’re not calling for, and working towards, the end of the gastapo, you’re on their side.

    17. swallowrazors on

Chuck Schumer is as worthless as a pair of shit stained underwear.

      Fucking pathetic.

    18. TwoColdBeers on

It’s weird how dem voters are consistently hoodwinked by the party they support

    19. TheDwellingHeart on

The democrat leadership wants to be remembered as the best cock sucking republicams have ever received.

    20. TheBlueBlaze on

Dem leaders need to understand that the reason Trump’s messaging is so popular is because he *starts* from the most extreme position, then hopes people won’t notice or care when it gets backtracked or compromised. By starting with the compromise, even if it’s more likely to happen, you look weaker.

The headline of „[Republican] demands all immigrants get thrown into meat grinder“ will get a positive response from their base, even if it’s not actually going to happen, because they’re signaling what they support. Similarly, the headline of „[Democrat] demands every ICE agent be put on trial“ would do the same for *their* base, despite its unlikeliness to happen.

Schumer and Jeffries are either unaware what kind of political landscape they’re in now, or too willing to work with the conservative side out of some desperation to maintain this ideal of „bipartisanship“ that the Republicans long gave up on.

    21. Funny thing is when things escalate and he starts going after enemies, Trump will have Schumer in chains. They always think they’re safe. Just like Pence.

    22. Seems like another kick the can down the road move by the Dems. They get a two week extension, the government stays open and then what happens in two weeks? The Dems cave?

    23. I reached out to both of them and directly asked , how many more of us can we expect to be killed before they decide to step up.

    24. Schumer being completely fucking useless is par for the course. That goddamn milquetoast has got to go as Senate majority leader.

    25. Dems have an enormous leadership problem. Until Chuck and his minims are gone, nothing will change, and Trump will keep on winning. It is catastrophic.

    26. un_internaute on

They want to be remembered as fighters while being complicit. It’s been working well enough for them so far.

    27. SquadgeHeighmer on

Is there any way for House and Senate democrats to get new leadership that will actually lead a resistance party? Or are we stuck with these fucking clowns forever? Legit question

    28. Anything that they tell the government to reform ice will pass but has to be enforced by the branch that refuses to investigate ice. Ending ice is the only outcome that should be aimed for.

The U.S. needs a general strike yesterday. Since that can’t happen, let’s make it tomorrow.

    30. Logical-Cook-5061 on

That would require Schumer have a spine to stand up straight for Americans. Guess that explains the hunch.

The old guard of the dems need to go. Chuck is not the right person for the moment .
They still want to Appel enough to get those big fat corporate checks come election time. David Hogg had the right idea to primary old guard democrats and the DNC ousted him .
