  1. After-Example-2662 on

    >But if it is clear from the outset that a Turkish Cypriot can never be president of the structure that will be created, that means there will be no political equality.

I could agree in 4-to-1 which is close to the population ratio, as long as the president will be elected by receiving the majority of the votes of the whole population.

In other words, in that election all the candidates for the presidency will be TCs, but who among them will be elected will be the one who receives the most votes from the whole population of Cyprus, not somebody who is chosen exclusively or mostly by the TCs.

    >First the rotating presidency and then the recording of convergences

OK, this is not acceptable. He wants his point to take priority over everything else. What if we said „First agree that all Turkish troops will leave from Cyprus and there will be no Turkish guarantees, and then we will talk about the rest“ would he agree?

  2. A TC can never be president in 1960 constitution. If you don’t know, don’t talk about it. Because it looks funny.

  3. EFFECTIVE PARTICIPATION AND ROTATING PRESIDENCY SHOULD BE ACCEPTED AS A PRINCIPLE.“

Erhürman stated that the first point of their four-point proposal was „political equality,“ emphasizing that what they were saying was „very clear,“ and that „effective participation and rotating presidency should be accepted in principle.“ He said that arrangements for rotating presidency, such as two-to-one, three-to-one, or four-to-one, would be subject to negotiation and bargaining, but that the absence of rotating presidency in principle would mean that a Turkish Cypriot could never be the head of that structure. Erhürman noted that the fact that a Turkish Cypriot could never be the head of the structure to be established would mean that there would be no political equality, adding that the pains of this were already experienced during the 1960 Constitution period.

What is interesting is that he mentions the two-to-one, three-to-one, four-to-one being a subject of negotiations (when in the past it was always 2:1)

  4. Typical negotiation shenanigans; as long as Cypriots remain institutionally separated based on ethnic identity we will remain stuck in these talks without a way out
