So the rightoids are jumping to Reform and the centrists aren’t wanted. Guess you’ll have to become a left wing party.
Can lead a horse to a pond by a mighty stroke of luck, but can’t force the horse to drop dumb extreme right ideas and adopt the policies that would get them elected.

The political views of society generally follow a statistical bell curve.
Which means most people trend towards the centre.
Which means some politicians are inevitably at the bell end.
Christ I can’t wait for the needle to swing back to boring old Social Democracy. Sadly we’ll probably need some form of global diasaster like we did the last time.
When immigration is essentially the loudest point being made in the room it’s safe to say nobody is going to vote for a party headed by an immigrant.
She could genuinely be the best person for the job but she won’t ever get a chance due to immutable characteristics.

They really need to ditch her and move back to more centrist position.
I doubt this is what Conservatives promoting Prosper UK have in mind.
This will warm the hearts of the Lib Dems. There are a swathe of constituencies in the South and South West of England that will never vote for Reform or a far right Tory Party. The Lib Dems already have 72 seats and could pick up a dozen more, especially if the Tories and Reform are getting in each others way.
They have literally learned nothing from the election and completely deserve oblivion.
In a surprise move, Kemi Badenoch has also announced the party will henceforth be known as „Reform UK“
I honestly forgot, and then I was genuinely stunned, that Kemi Badenoch is still Conservative leader.
I suppose amidst the mass defection to Reform there’s no one left in the Tory party ar$ed enough, or with enough standing, to oust her.
There it is. The Conservatives are dead.
How dumb do you have to be to not believe in normal distribution?
What is so sad about Badenoch is that if she wasn’t leader she would also have jumped on this bandwagon. She was in this camp in the past.
The fact those right wingers considered themselves to be centrists is mental.
The only thing keeping Kemi from joining Reform is the fact that she inexplicably became its leader.
I just don’t see how this works out for either side. Reform is now 70% the Tory government from 2019 onwards, and the Tories are Legacy Reform. It’s a long time from now until the GE, and that’s a lot of time where both parties are going to absolutely fuck themselves.
It’s ironic witnessing Badenoch doubling down on dragging the Conservatives ever further rightward to try and out Reform, Reform…. All the while more and more Conservatives MPs and Conservative councillors and members defect to Reform U.K.!
I think the word „Centrist“ is superfluous in that sentence. „Ideas“ are no longer wanted. They only want slogans, bullshit and knee-jerk reactions.

Most of the Conservative cabinet from the 90s would be considered too ‚left wing‘ to be in the current conservative party.
Weren’t the refugees Ruth Davidson and Amber Rudd trying to launch a group within the Tory party to lure back moderate voters?
She’s going to have to explain what she means by centrist, I’ve never heard anyone actually define that. Usually the attempt is „likes a bit of the left party’s policies and a bit of the right party’s policies“, but at this point the conservatives should be trying to position themselves as the mid point between reform and labour, so by that definition, their optimal strategy is definitionally centrist.
The Tories and Reform are now locked in a death spiral as to who can be the batshit craziest. Surely the leader of whatever party that admits Brexit was a disaster and blames it all on Farage will clean up.
So the Conservative Party is finally getting rid of the far right crowd and her idea is to push the Conservative party further to the right? So what sets Reform and the conservatives apart?
The fringes are the most noisy yes but most people belong center left or center right – hence the swing votes. Trying to chase Farage is not the answer.
I had hoped that she’d take the opportunity of Jenrick and Bravermam jumping ship to move towards the centre. Sadly not by the sounds of it.

So the right of the tory party are defecting and leaving – Kemi takes this opportunity to explicitly state that the centrists within the party aren’t welcome either. Just bizarre… She’s been presented an opportunity on a golden platter to rebrand & broaden the party’s appeal, but instead she wants to double down & continue her goal of mimicking reform-esque policy.
It’s wild to see them actively purging the centre while the right is already peeling off. They’re basically engineering their own irrelevance at this point.

Andy Street and Ruth Davidson just went out of their way to set up their own campaign to help steer the Tories in the right direction – so what are they gonna do now with this slap in the face?

Sensible centrism is pretty much the only brand position the Conservative Party have ever succeeded with. The broad church politics of compromise and socio-economic responsibility.
They tarnished most of that with Brexit and the chaotic identity crisis that followed.
Now they’ve netted out with “centrist ideas no longer wanted”.

Waiting for the Kemi defection to Reform in 6 months. It’s amazing to see people leaving the Tories simply because they aren’t racist enough.
The sooner the Tories ditch this leader the better for them. Never seen one so out of their depth before

Why not embrace the centre ground?
She’s doing a good thing in my book. Splitting the votes to torry and reform. And making Reform just look like an exact copy of torries because the torries „defected“ but will still bring their values and failed us in the past.

Keni really needs to figure out what the unique selling point of the conservatives is. She wants to portray the party as firmly right but keeps losing people to the even farther right party.
Honestly a savvy conservative would seize the moment to make themselves look like the most rational and sane centrist party – keep hammering how silly reform is. They wouldn’t win but they’d be a reasonable sized party.
But chasing reform is a losing game.
I genuinely feel sorry for any centre-right voters currently. I feel that the broadly liberal-minded middle class has been abandoned politically since Brexit.
I’m very surprised that the Lib Dems don’t get more support, considering how appealing they must be to One Nation Conservatives akin to David Cameron and co.
Surely Kemi Badenoch must see that she’s alienating the core base of her party.

So it’s a race on the right to see who can be the biggest bastard to the people with the least resources. Got it.
Massive lurch to the right means MPs and members defect -> it must be because we are not right wing enough -> try to become more right wing -> lose the rest of the remaining members.
She’s aware she’s black, right? And what conservatives *truly* think of non whites?
